After a number of cases of non-conformity have been reported to the Central Technical Service , the President of the Superior Council of Public Works, Dr. Massimo Sessa, has issued a note (No. 3703 of 20.04.2017, which is herewith enclosed) addressed to the Contracting Authorities, to the local competent Supervisory Bodies and to the competent Public Administrations. Through this note, the above authorities have received a Circular about the “Qualification of Metal Gabion boxes for structural use” stressing the need for all construction materials or products to comply with the procedures laid down in the NTCs (Technical Standards for Construction) and in the explanatory Circular No. 617 of 02.02.2009. In particular, it is the responsibility of the Works Manager to accept the material on site before installation, through appropriate acceptance tests as it is the responsibility of the person in charge of the tests to perform the final check on the materials and products used. The note restates that the CE Marking is necessary for construction products covered by a harmonized standard or under an ETA issued on the basis of an EAD as laid down in Regulation (EU) 305/2011 or in the NTCs.
